New Terry Hearn rods — the wait is over!!! Posted on March 10, 2015 by ESP Since Terry’s return this time last year when it was announced we were working on new rods, anticipation has been strong. The well-earned reputation of the previous mk-2 models made them a highly sought after pedigree, but now the wait is over and after a four year absence from the E-S-P range, we are very pleased to announce the launch of the new range of Terry Hearn rods. Here’s the full run-down and video on the two models: These new rods have been extensively tested and refined to Terry’s exacting standards. The blanks use the latest high modulus carbon cloths, reinforced with a tough, durable woven overwrap. ESP Terry Hearn Classic 12’ 9” 3¼lb (40mm) The Classic is the ‘purist’ model and the rod Terry uses by choice for most of his fishing. The iconic 12’9” length is preferred by Terry as the extra length improves casting distance and accuracy on a wide range of leads to distances of 100 metres plus. The Classic has a perfect forward action and superb fish playing response, providing tactile feedback into the hand and arm. It’s a pleasure to fish!
The slim, full-length EVA handle has a flared collar above the Fuji DPS reel seat. Machined stainless butt cap and moulded ESP line clip.
The single leg SiC guides have been selected to reduce weight, improve action and balance and feature ceramics to Terry’s request. They are perfectly positioned tapering from a 40mm Butt guide to a 12mm Tip ring.
ESP Terry Hearn Distance 12’ 9” 3½lb (50mm) The 12’ 9” 3½lb (50mm) Distance encompasses the iconic length and action of the benchmark 3¼lb 40mm model but with extra reserves of power, particularly in the butt section, to provide a faster, more steely blank. This additional power along with the 50mm to 16mm rings make a serious casting machine and distances of 150m+ can be achieved. The rod will handle a wide range of leads and big PVA bags can be fished with confidence. In spite of its power, this rod retains excellent fish playing properties and enough shock absorption in the tip to prevent hook pulls.
